Description Selco – V for Mare and Foal Selco-V is uniquely designed for the prevention and treatment of diseases caused or associated with a deficiency of Selenium, Vitamin E, B12 or Cobalt alone, or altogether.                                              It contains high levels of these minerals and vitamins. Why is Selenium important? Intake in a broodmare is important to maintain good levels of selenoproteins and enzymes that have essential functions in the mare’s antioxidant and immune system. Because of these effects, selenium is important for all aspects of the breeding cycle including: fertility, foetal growth, parturition, lactation, and a strong healthy immune system for the resulting foal. Selenium deficiencies seen in foals One of the most common is myopathy (muscle weakness). Affecting the skeletal muscles, so the foals have weak leg muscles. The condition shows itself by difficulty in standing and after standing, a trembling and staggering gait.                                                                                                                Eventually, the animals are unable to stand, weakness of the neck muscles prevents them from rising their head. Selco-V when used in Mares can aid in the prevention or correction of: muscular degeneration (myopathy) or nutritional myodegeneration (NMD), cardiomyopathy, hepatic degeneration, enhancement of immune response to infectious diseases in horses, stress or ill-health due to poor weather and or malnutrition. In very deficient horses Selco-V may help alleviate: growth retardation, cataract formation, retained placentas and reproductive failure. muscle disorders (tying-up) in some horses.
